6 Keys to Plan Promotions that Boost Your Revenue All Year Long

How do you feel about running and planning promotions? Do you love them or hate them? Do you joyfully sit at your desk scheduling sales and offers, or force yourself to buckle down and write something vaguely resembling a plan in the hope you can reward yourself with coffee and biscotti immediately after?

Promoting your business can be easy, or it can be tough. If you’re just starting out and have no experience, then it’s probably going to be difficult. Actually, even if you've been in business for a while, planning can be a challenge. With that being said, I’m going to share with you a few tips that should make the process simple for anyone.

6 Keys to Plan Promotions that Boost Your Revenue All Year Long

Planning your promotions, offers, and sales events doesn’t have to be difficult at all! The first thing is to determine how many promos you want to do. One a month is 12, one a week is 52. Don't let the high numbers scare you! And don't think you have to do a slew in order to boost your revenue.

Follow these simple steps and by the end of them, your promotions should run like a well-oiled, sales-generating machine:

1. Plan promotions and sales throughout the year

Now that you know how many promotions you want to run, the next step is to plan them out. The best ay to do this is by mapping out an entire year of promos and sales. In which months do you want to run promos? What weekdays will they be live? How long will they last? When will the sale happen? Once you have a full year mapped out, it’s time to start planning the specifics.

2. Boost revenue and provide added value to customers

Marketing your business isn't just about driving traffic to your website. In fact, if you want to increase revenue and provide added value to customers, then it’s important that you have an effective promotion strategy. If you promote too much, then people will get irritated with the messages and they won’t want to buy from you anymore. On the other hand, if you promote too little, then people will never know what your company has to offer and they’ll rarely buy anything from you either.

To improve your marketing efforts and make sure that customers are getting what they want out of a promotion, make sure that you:

  • Keep promotions short
  • Give discounts
  • Include an incentive in your campaign
  • Offer a free gift or trial offer with  purchase
  • Remember where your audience is
  • Offer a specific call-to-action for each promotion

3. Capitalize on holidays and events relevant to your audience

There are likely many holidays and events that your audience will be celebrating. These can be the perfect opportunities to market yourself to your customers. If you do these types of promotions the right way, you’ll create a lasting impression with your audience and bring in more sales.

4. Reduce stress and stop scrambling

It’s so easy to get stressed out when you have to promote your business. With all of the deadlines, anxiety, and scrambling that comes along with marketing campaigns, it can be hard to stay focused on what you’re doing. You might feel like you’re running late, but if you take a little time to organize your promotions and make sure they happen when they should, you won’t be worrying about anything other than what's for dinner tonight!

5. New to promos? That’s OK. Start small and grow

If you’re new to all of this, then you’re going to want to start small. You don’t have to go crazy setting up complicated offers. Just get started and grow from there.

Promotional methods can be a lot of fun, and it’s not always a huge investment either. It all depends on the campaign you're running, so think about what type of promotion you want to do for your business and how much time, effort, and money you want to spend on that particular event.

For example, if you wanted to run a print advertisement for your business in the local newspaper, that would cost a lot more money than running an ad on Facebook or Instagram. However, if your goal is just to get your name out there and take advantage of people who are actually in-the-know, then getting someone else to promote your business for a limited-time offer could be one way to go.

6. Run successful promos informed by data, experience, and feedback

Your promotions will be more successful if you base them on data, experience, and feedback. This means that you should plan your promotions with the following in mind:

  • What are your priorities?
  • What has worked well in the past?
  • What do you want to promote?

With this information at hand, you can confidently and successfully plan promotions that will boost your revenue exponentially. You'll know exactly what makes sense to promote, when, and how.
