Is Your Website Mobile-Friendly? 9 Steps to Find Out

Is your mobile website scaring away your readers and customers?

Is it even showing up in Google's mobile search results for people browing on their phones?

In this day and age, having a site that functions well and looks good on a smart phone or tablet is essential for being found online and for converting prospects to customers.

We've put together a list of 9 steps you should take to check the mobile version of your site.

If you're falling short on any of these, it's time to either switch over to a new theme (if you're on WordPress), create a separate mobile version of your site, or consult a developer.

Take a look through the slideshow (or refer to the steps listed below the slides).

Here are the tips we cover in the slides:

Step 1. Size for Mobile

Text, images and other features need to be clearly visible on small screens.

Step 2. Easy Navigation

Navigation should be clear, easy and geared towards touch screens.

Step 3. Minimum Scrolling

Mobile-Friendly sites don't scroll horizontally and have as much content above the fold as possible.

Step 4. Contrasting Colors

Schemes with contrasting colors make things easier to read and call attention to certain content.

Step 5. Fast Loading Time

Mobile users expect faster loading times as they're looking for info on-the-go.

Step 6. Few Text Fields

A good mobile site doesn't require a user to enter too much info.

Step 7. BIG Text Fields

Text fields must be easy enough to fill in. Use Auto-Fill where possible.

Step 8. Special Mobile Features

Special features include click-to-call, location or social media apps.

Step 9. Non-Mobile Option

Provide access to the desktop site version so users can access features if they require them.
