Your guest post needs to be targeted for the specific audience of the host's site.  If your site is about astrology and you are pitching to a shoe store, you'll get ignored. Sure, some people who visit the store may be interested in astrology. But it doesn't fit the overall theme of the store. However, if you get creative and put a unique spin on your post and pitch which shoes work for which star sign, you will not only stand out in their inbox, but you'll be accepted. Why? Because the topic is shoe-related and will ensure the store stands out from the crowd.
