Are You Ready For Guest Blogging?

Guest blogging can seem like a huge step in your online business. Instead of it being you and your own audience, it will be you and someone else's audience. And you don't know how they'll react to you and your content. It can be pretty daunting.

What if there was a way to check if you were ready for guest blogging?

Take this quick quiz, and you'll gain a percentage telling you how ready you are for guest blogging!

The higher your result in the quiz, the more likely you are to succeed when it comes to guest posting!

That said... you shouldn't just jump in and write your guest post and then pitch it to the first available person!

For the best results with guest blogging, follow these tips:

Tip 1

Pitch your post or idea for your guest post BEFORE you write it.  Imagine for a moment you want to write for Mashable. They have a huge tech following, and you have a fledging tech blog. You spend 2 days writing, researching, and putting together an epic post... Only for Mashable to ignore your pitch. Sure, you can rework the content and send it elsewhere, but it won't be the same. Pitch before you write.

Tip 2

The pitch email must be good. You are competing with thousands of others who want to be on Mashable. You need to customize the email, address the editor personally and, in a perfect world, they'll recognize your name and say yes. Why will they recognize your name? Because you will have networked with them first on social media.

Tip 3

Your guest post needs to be targeted for the specific audience of the host's site.  If your site is about astrology and you are pitching to a shoe store, you'll get ignored. Sure, some people who visit the store may be interested in astrology. But it doesn't fit the overall theme of the store. However, if you get creative and put a unique spin on your post and pitch which shoes work for which star sign, you will not only stand out in their inbox, but you'll be accepted. Why? Because the topic is shoe-related and will ensure the store stands out from the crowd.
