Content Buyer’s Checklist: 5 Factors to Consider BEFORE You Buy Brandable (PLR) Content

Youโ€™re browsing the web searching for the latest brandable, PLR content. The only problem is, there are dozens of websites and thousands of products to choose from.

Nowadays, itโ€™s easier than ever for someone to whip up PLR products and set up shopโ€ฆ meaning itโ€™s harder than ever to find ones that are high quality and, you know, will actually help you make more money.

That means more time spent evaluating sellers and sifting through reviews to determine if your money is well spent. Thereโ€™s no doubt that high-quality, educational, solution-focused content builds your value exponentially in the eyes of your audience, while low-quality content could tank your reputation.

Donโ€™t worry, Iโ€™ve got you covered. Read on as I break down five key criteria to review to make sure a PLR product is worth purchasing.

3 Benefits of PLR Content for Coaches and Consultants

While starting a coaching business or agency may seem simple at first, scaling it past six figures is hard if you donโ€™t have a large team.

Thatโ€™s where PLR comes in. PLR (Private Label Rights) is white label content that you can purchase and sell as your own. This allows you to scale faster by selling digital products as a new income stream. Here are the top three benefits you can expect after purchasing PLR content:

  • Passive income: Once you purchase your PLR content, you can sell new digital products on repeat to multiple customers without additional work. This gives you a new source of revenue that wonโ€™t suck up any more of your time.
  • Expand your reach: By purchasing PLR content to sell as your own, you can reach a larger audience of customers without the limits of bandwidth or time zones.
  • Fewer customer demands: New clients are greatโ€ฆ but they take up time and need one-on-one attention. Courses, worksheets, webinars, and other digital products allow you to provide value for customers without needing to talk to them.

PLR sounds great, right? But hang on a sec and donโ€™t rush into buying anything just yet. Not all PLR is the same. Read on for my five-step checklist to decide which PLR products to purchase.

5 Factors to Check Before Buying PLR Content

Here are five non-negotiables that I recommend you check before clicking that โ€œadd to cartโ€ button:

  • Relevance
  • Quality
  • Profit potential
  • Flexibility
  • Quantity

Iโ€™ll walk you through each of these in depth.

1. Relevance

Always start with relevance.

Ask yourself, is this a topic that will help your audience with problems related to your area of expertise? Is it something they've asked you about, or something you anticipate they will ask about?

There's no point in considering buying the content if your audience can't relate to it. You might consider buying the content if it's about a topic you're planning to cover in the future. But, in that case, be sure that you have specific plans for when you'll do that.

2. Quality

If the content is relevant, now you need to determine if it is high-quality.

Iโ€™ve written about the best PLR websites to purchase from, but beyond that list, you should ask yourself the following:

  • How was the content created?
  • What process does the content creator use?
  • Is it based on up-to-date research?
  • Who is writing it?
  • Is it carefully checked for grammar and typos?
  • Is it easy to understand?
  • Will people be able to learn from it and get results?

I know those are a lot of questions to consider, but as I mentioned before, your reputation is built on the content you provide. Make sure it's up to your high standards and will build your credibility as an expert in your field.

3. Profit Potential

If the content is relevant and high-quality, you next need to determine how you will use it to grow your business and whether you can get a good enough return on your investment.

In general, there are four key areas where you need content in your business. Looking at each of these areas, think about how you could use the brandable content being offered:

  • Awareness: To build your reputation as an expert, your audience needs to see that you know what you're talking about and can help them reach their goals. By consistently providing content your audience recognizes as valuable, you'll take them on the first step in their journey towards being a customer.
  • Lead generation: Without a regular source of leads/prospects, you'll never have predictable income. When you provide โ€œgatedโ€ content in exchange for contact details, you can prove your expertise even further. Even though itโ€™s given freely, your content still needs to provide quick wins and value.
  • Paid products/services: With high-quality PLR content, you can create courses, infoproducts, membership sites, workshops, video training, and more. PLR can also help you whip up low-ticket offers and order bumps to tack onto larger sales.
  • Relationship-building: People buy from people that they know, like, and trust. Emails and other free content for your leads nurture those connections. Remember that the content you provide to your current customers helps them reach their goals, and that keeps them coming back and buying over and over again.

As you compare PLR products, look at them through the above criteria to see where they fit and how they can help you grow your business.

4. Flexibility

Flexibility is key, especially if you intend to repurpose your PLR content to create a more diverse set of products and offers.

Most brandable content allows you to transform it into any media format you want, including slides, infographics, audio, and video. But check the rights to be sure you don't have to use the content as-is, without changes (for example, is it PLR or MRR?). Also, take a look at the way the materials are presented, so you can see how easy it will be to convert to other media.

You should also check to see what audience the content was created for and whether it is generic enough to tailor to your audience, and potentially others whom you want to serve.

5. Quantity

Quantity is the least important of these factors, but it is worth paying attention to.

A massive bundle of content that you'll never use and which you'll waste hours sifting through is a waste of money. If you are looking at a big package, calculate the cost as a combination of the price tag plus the value of your own time. Then look back at your answers for the Profit Potential factor. How much can you potentially make in terms of additional revenue from that content? Does the revenue outweigh the cost? Could that time be spent more profitably elsewhere?

For example, if you're just looking at buying content to create a new lead magnet, then you may only need a short report, checklist, or template. A few email follow-ups would be useful there too, along with some social media posts and articles.

If you're looking at a package of content that promises to teach people how to start a business and grow it to $1 million in 1 year, then you should expect much more than a 20-page ebook with a few worksheets. Think about how much knowledge and skill development is involved in that case. Would you be able to teach someone everything they need to know in 1 hour? Not a chance!

And now that you've evaluated the brandable content being offered, based on these five factors, you can make an informed decision about whether to buy it.

Is Selling PLR Worth It? Just Ask Mary

With all the extra work involved to evaluate PLR products, is it really worth it?

While I could wax poetic for thousands of words, I think Maryโ€™s story helps illustrate the power of PLR well.

Mary is an experienced course creator looking for a boost in content creation. Like you, she was searching for high-quality PLR products when she arrived at my shop.

She used the content to create customized online courses on Teachable, bringing her unique insights and examples into the courses. Maryโ€™s first go at selling PLR products generated $1,000 in just four days, selling 21 courses for $47 each. She later increased the price to $97 and has grown from there. Thanks to PLR, Mary developed a comprehensive academy for coaches, which continues to grow to this day.
