How to Use Your Slides to Run Hangouts on Air

I'll bet you've already heard that running online webinars is a great thing for building your reputation. And you may already know that have a slideshow is key for a webinar.

But did you know that you can also use them to run a Hangout or Hangout on Air? And there's no cost, since it's all courtesy of Google+.

In the video below, I show you just how easy it is to grab the slides you get in any of our content and share them via a Hangout. In this case, I'm showing slides from our course on How to Use Social Media to Build Your Email List.

Google is constantly changing, so when you go to start your own Hangout, it could look a little different. However, they're pretty good about making it self-explanatory.

Here's a brief overview

Step 1: Open Your Slideshow

Test out how it will look on your screen by clicking on ‘Slideshow' and ‘Start at Beginning'. I have 2 monitors, so mine always opens in a separate monitor. I highly recommend this!

If you don't have 2 monitors, you might need to share your slides from the main PowerPoint file (or other slide software)

Step 2: Start Your Hangout

I used my slides as a guest on hangout, so all I had to do was join the Hangout. But it's incredibly easy to start one yourself. Just pick the option from your Google+ home page and Google walks you through the steps.

In order to have a video when you're done, be sure to make it a Hangout on Air. That will broadcast and record straight to YouTube.

Step 3: Click on Share Screen Option

Say hello while your own face is on camera, and then find the little icon on the left that says ‘share screen'

Google will give you a choice of any windows you have open, so make sure you share the correct window.

You can then click through your slides as you continue to talk and your participants will only see the slides.

Step 4: Switch Back and Forth Periodically

One of the biggest benefits of Hangouts vs. webinars is the face-to-face component. So stay personal and visible by stopping your screen sharing and starting again at different points.

When you're all done, you'll just end the broadcast.
Then you should head over to YouTube to check your recording and make any edits if you want.

Of course, don't forget to share your video!

If you want to grab the slides that I showed in the video, and even customize and use them yourself, you can head over here:
