This is Sarah, and I'm really excited to be here today with Jane Kelly, and she's our latest Bright Spark.

So, Jane, for the people that have not seen you in the community or in the time management community, can you tell us a little bit about who Jane Kelly is.

1

Jane Kelly:

Thanks for having me, ladies. So I guess I'm new to being a customer of yours because I've only, over the last couple of months, started purchasing courses. And the reason for that is, I'm now Jane Kelly Online. I've actually rebranded and merged two websites together because I'm from a corporate training background and my other website was Business Life Solutions, which worked really well. But I sort of moved more into one-to-one coaching and it felt a better fit for me. And I did have Jane Kelly designs,

3

so some of my stuff might still be sort of lurking around. And that is because I am also a website, WordPress website designer and Woo Commerce specialist. And I also went into graphic design. And I also run a creative magazine called Photo Shoot Magazine for anything to do around photo shoots.

But my journey has gone full circle. And what I absolutely love doing is training. That's my background in education. And although I love helping people on a one-to-one basis, I actually love doing one-to-many.

2

I love teaching one-to-many. So last year I did some trials. There's a huge need for people who want their own websites. I've done the one-to-one I still do here and there, but I want to do one-to-many. So therefore I've engaged more in the courses because I'm running so a DIY course for people who want a WordPress website. I don't want to teach them one-to-one. So right now I have an ongoing program where people are learning and training to develop their own website.

So that's one aspect. I then have add-on modules, because what happens is people go, ‘oh, I want a shop and an email integration' and ‘I want to do SEO' or ‘I want to blog', and actually, they are modules in their own right and it sort of leads on to where I'm using Content Sparks material. But that's one half of me. The other half of me is I love blogging and writing. Never used to be the best writer but I've grown.

1 1

And that has come about from doing my magazine because I blog for my magazine and I also blog being an editor for self-publishing a magazine because I built that from nothing. So that's sort of those two halves of me. I'm an editor of a creative magazine, but I also love everything to do with websites and helping small businesses and creative professionals get noticed online. So I think that summarizes who I am.

Sarah Arrow:

But you're also a teacher, aren't you?

Jane Kelly:

Yes. So I'm a qualified teacher. I took myself, whilst I was working full time. I always knew that there was something missing. So from the age of, I think it was early twenties, I actually trained to be a teacher, follow in my mother's footsteps, who's a doctor of education and did my basic teaching certificate and education. And then I went on to do a degree later in life at forty something.

Sarah Arrow:

Wow. So your whole life has been surrounded by education and now you're teaching. So I'm going to ask the obvious question and Sharyn will kick me. I'm glad I'm across the pond. I can't feel the belt from here.

Why did you choose Content Sparks for your courses? Because there are a lot of course providers out there, and knowing your background in education, I'm kind of curious as to why Content Sparks is for you.

4

Jane Kelly:

Yeah, great. It's a really good question. I never used to be self-employed. That came later in life through some funding. I worked as a workforce development manager and part of that job was writing course materials and the time that it took to take a curriculum idea, and we had to modify a base, say a government incentive, like I used to teach kids skills and help people in the workplace with their skills, which I absolutely loved.

5

But we spend so much time doing the logistics, and when you just want to get out there and help people. So for me, when I discovered Content Sparks, it was an ‘aha' moment, because not only could I use everything that you give me, I literally, if I wanted to use it out of the box and by changing just some very basic elements without even having to add my own language if I wanted to.

And I think what's really great is you have that base content so you could actually get started quite quickly if you really wanted to. But what I also love is that it leads you to personalize, rebrand and add your own language for your audience. And I went on a buying frenzy…

Sarah Arrow:

Ye, we've all been there

Jane Kelly:

I had some incredible opportunities come to me, and it was actually right in the middle of our Covid crisis where I instantly turned an opportunity of a webinar to five and a half thousand women, to running a blog challenge.

6

I literally made that decision right there and then. And I took a small group through a challenge using the blog course, so I took elements and I applied them a week, well no actually, days later, and then I absolutely loved the blog ‘repurpose your content', and I formed a membership that the group that I took through my challenge are now working through, and I've added lots of other bits from all of the courses. So I've merged quite a few different courses.

Sarah Arrow:

Well, that's a spoiler alert for my next question.

Jane Kelly:

I know, I though that was coming. So I'll stop.

Sarah Arrow:

Which one is your favorite?

7

Jane Kelly:

OK, well, I think to be honest, I have dipped into all of them and I love them all and I will be running them all as independent modules. But right now I have literally used words and content and my website, and you'll recognize them instantly from the blog course because I do love blogging.

But I must say the repurpose blog challenge, I actually didn't even think of some of the stuff myself. So for me, I love is I love learning myself. So I learn too. Even if you never use it to sell it, you learn from it yourself. So I guess the repurpose content so far, I think it's been brilliant.

Sarah Arrow:

It's been brilliant. Thank you. So as somebody with incredible skills in photography, design, as well as teaching and training. What do you do with your Content Sparks content? How do you turn it into Jane Kelly content is what I'm asking here.

8

Jane Kelly:

Obviously for everything that's new, you're sort of like, whoa, OK. So the first couple of times I was presented with the folders and the stuff, it was a bit like, wow, this is information. However, I think what really worked my way is I skimmed. Because it's the first time you don't know really what to expect to be honest.

So I skimmed, but I also watched and downloaded Sharyn's ‘how to plan and use your content', which I think really helps because you've got this amazing information. You sort of sit there and go, OK, what are you going to do with it? And so for me, because I was drawing bits and pieces out just to literally get going, I literally am doing this on the hoof. I literally go right this week I'm going to introduce this to my group and go, Oh, that'll do.

And I literally draw it. So we're working through SEO at the moment. So I've taken backlinks and I've modified the sheet to literally deal with this week. So it's not ideal what I'm doing. But, you know, right now you've got to react to what's out there. So for me to go in and go, yes, I'm going to take that section right now. And I have literally copied and pasted straight in and jiggled some of the language. I'm sharing this information with English business ladies in France. So I'm taking out like some of the Americanized spelling. But that's all I've done.  And I've just done a few tweaks to it so as if I'm talking, but it's straight out the box to be fair.

Sharyn Sheldon:

So let me just clarify. So you're opening them up, and you're grabbing what you know you can use right away.

Jane Kelly:

Yeah.

Sharyn Sheldon:

And, you know, you're going to go back later and use them more completely.

Jane Kelly:

Absolutely. So because I have actually just bought your online one, I sat there all day and I thought, just do it. So I've bought that. It is a bit addictive, to be fair, because they are sitting there, they're sitting there and you go and it makes your brain work. And for me, the reason why I started doing the websites is because I had people join my blog challenge who didn't have a website.

And I thought, well, I don't really want to teach one-to-one, because it's hard. One-to-one teaching is hard. I love teaching, as I said, one-too-many. So I've literally pulled out bits and pieces and using them right now.

Sarah Arrow:

So you've got How to Start an Online Store. You've just purchased it.

Jane Kelly:

I haven't even opened the email.

Sarah Arrow:

Not downloaded, unzipped

Jane Kelly:

Half an hour ago…

Sarah Arrow:

Half an hour ago. So this is really hot content. Without looking at it what are your plans for this content?

10

Jane Kelly:

So one of my modules for my design your own WordPress, which is where I pre-built templates, because the biggest hurdle is people go, well, I don't even know how to install WordPress or I bought this amazing template and it looks nothing like it now does on my machine. Because I've been there 15 years ago. That was me. So what I'm going to do with this is when I open it. Well, I've already got a module on my WordPress design course, which is to create an e-commerce store using Woocommerce, because if you're if you're working with WordPress, then a no brainer is to have Woocommerce.

I mean, I used to be a Shopify partner. But if you want to grow your business and it's not just necessarily a shop, then WordPress is the way forward. So I will be putting it straight out of the box and slotting in the Woocommerce element. That's how I'm going to use it, but also sell it as a standalone. So if people have a WordPress. They can just literally grab it and add a shop to their WordPress, because these are things I get asked all the time, I need a shop.

Sharyn Sheldon:

So you're going to be able to, basically the course is going to help them decide all the different things that they need to decide and get planning and doing. And you can help them with the technical part.

Jane Kelly:

Yes.

Sharyn Sheldon:

With Woocommerce, because that's your specialty as well. Yeah. So it's going to save you all that ‘what's your topic going to be' and ‘where are you going to find products'. And ‘let's create a plan'.

Jane Kelly:

I think what it does… now don't get me wrong, we're talking honestly and people who are listening, you know, would want to know, is this going to benefit what I'm offering? And I thought about it. And that's why I was all should I? shan't I? Because I know Woocommerce inside out. So I've got quite a lot of material for that over the years where I've helped my custom builds and private customers.

9

But then I saw actually what this will do is this to add value, because rather than me just going “here's Woocommerce everybody” let's get on with, it actually gives them more value and they sit back and can plan and evaluate. So that's why I decided that I think this will add value to my ‘techy' product. So that's why I have got it.

Sharyn Sheldon:

Definitely it will.

Jane Kelly:

Yes.

Jane Kelly:

And I think you can charge a higher value because you've got more content and more meat. So I love that. I'm also looking at…. I think I mentioned to you, that I love the telephone group, Content Sparks VIP Live. I am seriously looking at the website side, so that will probably be next months.

11

Sarah Arrow:

That's a good program, the Strategic Website Content.

Jane Kelly:

Yes. I think that, again, would add value to what I'm doing. Absolutely.

Sarah Arrow:

It's what the product is at the end of the blogging challenge because they learn how to create posts during the thing. So they've got all the posts that they need. But what they actually don't have is a home page and about page, a content page and all of the other components. And if I get my wicked way and I think I'm getting there, we will have a course at some point that will help people create specific types of content like skyscraper and hub pages, because hub pages – the hub and spoke system is often confused with other things. And of course, then there's the epic content and then there's short form content.

12

Jane Kelly:

Yes Sharyn. Mm. Yes.

Sarah Arrow:

There's now two of us…

Sharyn Sheldon:

We have plans for, and depending on when anyone watches this, it may already be available. We have plans for one and I don't know what we're going to call it, creative website content, I don't know, titles are the worst.

We're going to have one on with what you were talking about. Skyscraper content and pillar pages and other things that Sarah has mentioned – upside down home pages and maybe a case studies page, all the different types of things.

Jane Kelly:

And quite simply, posts from social media. I know you do stuff within courses, but maybe how to write mini stories, and posts on social media as well. It's just like speaking to your audience in lots of different ways.

Sarah Arrow:

I did a recent poll on LinkedIn and it was really fascinating in the sense of the first six or seven hours of the poll, and it was up for I think 48 hours, was everybody saying the best type of content for me that I enjoy creating is video content. And that was like forty six percent. And then there was short form content, long form content and visuals as in graphics. By the end of the poll, short form content won by a mile.

Jane Kelly:

Yeah. Because I find it hard. Yeah.

Sarah Arrow:

They can't create the long form content with these, which obviously is where people like me and Jane and Sharyn come into play because we can help you with that. But the short form content is something that they love doing. But again, they find it really quite difficult and I do want to say to them “short form content shouldn't be on your blog. It lives only lives on Facebook. It doesn't live on your blog.”

Your blog can do many, many things. But how's your short form content? like “how's your day today?” that belongs on social.

Jane Kelly:

I think writing for different audiences and writing appropriately for different audiences…

Sarah Arrow:

oh, that's in Expressing Your Brand Voice. You'll have to get that one.

In the Expressing Your Brand Voice. You have the tone matrix. So they get the tone right. I've customized that. That's now called Express Yourself. It's actually going to go through the wringer again and it's going to be Express Your Inner Rebel Voice.

So it's getting two makeovers that one. But yes, a lot of this stuff around writing and tone is in the brand voice, which is a good one. Unfortunately, I've not really done anything with it beyond recording it and putting it up, because I believe as soon as I recorded and put it up, Promote and Market Your Business Book came out, because I've sat on the brand voice for a year and I loved the book marketing one more than I did brand voice. So it was au revoir brand voice and hello book marketing you sexy thing.

13

Jane Kelly:

I've looked at book marketing because actually my other dream is to help people self publish their magazine. I've self published my mom's books, which is great, but I love the self-publishing magazine world, which fits in with my magazine. But the problem is I don't have any audience. None, zilch. So I need to build up an audience and do something else I love in order to then go right OK while that's being built. I can then generate some interest. That's really niche, somebody who wants a magazine in print and digital, is quite niche. But that's what will happen. But one thing at a time. I wonder if the book marketing one would maybe help?

Sarah Arrow:

Yeah, they're elements of KDP and using that in the book marketing, but there's also Write Your Expert Book, that's going to be Write Your Rebel Book and that will be going through the mincing machine next week. So, I call it the mincing machine. That's where I get all of the content and I just start doing things with it and throwing things everywhere. And, you know, and how it finishes up isn't how it starts in a nice little package zipped up. It's all over the place.

Jane Kelly:

Mine's a bit like that. Yeah.

Sharyn Sheldon:

Are you going to be able to show us anything

Jane Kelly:

Who me?

Sharyn Sheldon:

Yeah.

Jane Kelly:

Right now? Yeah. OK.

Sarah Arrow:

Show us your stuff

Sharyn Sheldon:

Why not?

14

Jane Kelly:

No that's fine. So I shut down the hundred million screens I've got going with me at the moment. Four of them are Content Sparks screens.

Sharyn Sheldon:

uh-oh,

Jane Kelly:

Right, I really need to just focus. And then you bring out another one…

Sharyn Sheldon:

…but that means you'll always you'll have it there for when you do need it. That's why we have to keep everything evergreen, because you just don't know.

I shouldn't even tell you what we have coming out on Thursday night.

Jane Kelly:

When? When?

Sharyn Sheldon:

Thursday, first Thursday of the month right there.

Jane Kelly:

Is this something to with websites and blogging and content?

Sharyn Sheldon:

No it's Low Cost Marketing Strategies.

Jane Kelly:

OK, so this is my page for my challenge that starts on Monday and I've taken some of the words throughout. You might see them here and there. So this is a little bit further down. There'll be some bits and pieces in there. So I've used some bits and pieces in here. Obviously, this is a sales page, but the biggie. That's the one that's really apparent right now, would be my mastery. So this is where I've really taken quite a lot of your text. And it's time to reach wider audiences of yours, and then this is all about the content repurposing, and you'll probably notice that I've taken literally all of the modules and put them in.

Can you see it OK?

Sharyn Sheldon:

This is the Content Repurposing Challenge?

Jane Kelly:

So basically, I didn't use it as a challenge. I do my five day blog challenge, which just covers how to identify your audience, choose topics, keywords, key phrases, and how to structure. I did run a 10-day blog challenge. But what happened was people couldn't cope with actually writing the blog posts. So now I'm not doing the actual writing of the blog. They can come on my mastery. Right, which I think stops the overwhelm because a lot of people didn't have time to write the actual blog. So I've given them the structure and how to. I actually gave a lot away in those ten days. So I stripped it back because a lot of people I didn't get a chance to over the weekend because lots of people switch off, don't they? So, the idea was, this is a program which is a membership and a course, but eventually this will be a complete program. But right now I'm just testing it and they know that and they're happy. So we're module 1 at the moment. So SEO, I'm taking most of the content from the SEO course that I have of yours. And these will be used  from the repurpose course. And there's social media one, at the bottom. And these are your words.

Sharyn Sheldon:

I wouldn't know it. It looks so different that I would never recognize it.

Jane Kelly:

And right now, I'm just selling it at £39 a month. But I have to tell people that every time I do another challenge that it will go up. Because what I'm putting into this is really a six month program. But right now for me, I'm just testing, timing and seeing what works. And these are all your quotes here. So it literally saved me hours. And I've got a folder behind me and I printed off bits of the course.

Sharyn Sheldon:

So you have you have Introduction to SEO & Keywords and the Content Repurposing Challenge.

Now, I'm just wondering which one to use for this because you're charging I think you said £39 a month…

Jane Kelly:

…per person per month,

Sharyn Sheldon:

…per person per month. So you could probably calculate how many people you'd have to sign up just for one month to get your investment back.

Jane Kelly:

These pay for my courses with you. So I use the money I generate from your courses to pay for other courses.

Sharyn Sheldon:

So you would probably only need a small handful of people just to get your investment back just for one month, and then the rest is profit

2 1

Jane Kelly:

It pays for itself with the first three people.

Sharyn Sheldon:

Yeah

Jane Kelly:

Yeah. So what I do is I have all my courses in folders and I literally printed some off only because it's just easier and then I go through. So I've got the SEO one and I literally go through and I take off chunks that I'm going to use in my membership program. And then what I actually also did, with the SEO, I put out there just to see what reaction I would get, an SEO deep-dive and I literally just used all your points on there and then a very quick ninety nine pounds, by doing an SEO deep-dive survey and then I presented that assessment and I used your cheat sheet to do the assessment. And I not only earned ninety nine pounds which actually paid for the course, But I've got the follow up work of doing their SEO.

So every course that I've bought so far has paid for itself almost instantly. And then I use the money that I get from everything that I am doing, that buys another course and I'm getting a little stash.

So this is literally a week old, this website. I've merged two websites because I obviously haven't got enough time in my life. I've got things to do. So the design program is this one, so I'm just tidying up. I'm sort of going by create your dream website. I add everything for them here. But this is sort of leading on to what I'm saying. These are the add-ons. So I've got SEO, Woocommerce, which I'll change to Start an Online Shop. And obviously I will reprice that because that is going to be just the quick woocommerce. But now I've got a lot more depth to this emails, and newsletters anything coming up for that would be great.

Sharyn Sheldon:

I already have quite a lot of stuff for email lists.

Jane Kelly:

Yes, I got your List Building Lead Magnets I got last week and then I think the other day I got your.. I've got something else to grow your business. I've got grow your business.

Sharyn Sheldon:

There's that one, the Create Your Business Growth Plan. There's Build Your Email List from Scratch. There's Autoresponder Emails That Convert.

Jane Kelly:

Yes. So that's I'll be looking at those next.

Sharyn Sheldon:

And Email Copywriting as well is another one.

Jane Kelly:

These were Add-Ons to my course. These are the templates I built. And what I do is I say to people, because what happens is it's a mindset thing. They go well, but I don't have beauty business. So since. This is a beauty business one, and I say no, but what I've done is I've actually built a very similar website template just changing the picture. And jiggling a few bits and pieces around to show people that this is a base template and that you can modify it to suit, and I teach them how to do that.

So that's going really, really well. And then obviously the idea is that I will upsell these extra modules and stand alones. And this is just meeting the demand, because this is what I get asked for all the time is how to build / how do I add an email newsletter? Yeah, how do I add a blog?  how do I add a shop? So I'm developing these materials.

Sharyn Sheldon:

And then you can just you say you offer a bespoke design services also. So that means you can pick and choose who you work with.

Jane Kelly:

Absolutely. So I also build websites for luxury brands. But my preference is to teach one-to-many, but I'm also not only do I use WordPress and Woocommerce, but I integrate a learning management system. So I actually just picked up a commission today where I am building a wordpress learning management system and a forum, a group forum for their whole programs, all their programs. So I think I'll probably add to this learning management as well, a learning management system.

Sarah Arrow:

Brilliant. So now we know where to find you online, if somebody is just found Content Sparks and it's their first time. What advice would you give to them?

15

Jane Kelly:

I would say, really think about where it can fit in with your business. That's one concept, but if had I said that to myself six months ago, that's not really what I've done. I've actually met the demands of what I'm being asked for. So I am being asked for this stuff. So I then went to see what you guys could offer me. That is the reverse of what I would say. Start with one and start with something simple to get the feel of it all. Or, do  the Free 10-Day Online Course Challenge. That's what gave me the feel of it. I downloaded everything, I loved Trello. I don't actually use Trello myself. I use Asana, but I loved it as well. I looked at using it, but I'm so integrated with Asana that. But I think Trello's great. Great to just quickly pick up. Yeah. And I think that's how I focused. And yes, I've got a lot of work to do, but it's literally “yes, I think I'll choose those colors”.

That's how simple it can be.

You know, just start with one course, don't get overwhelmed. Just look at the planning and I watched your video on how to plan and use the information. And I think what I really loved is that I could just take out snippets from social media. And obviously some of the courses give you lots of blogging. They give you posts and articles and everything.

So I think just start with one and keep it keep it simple and easy one so you don't get overwhelmed.

But I love learning too. For me I learn and I read, absorb. And whilst I'm working through it, your head starts going, yes, I could use this for, such and such, because I have a whole other audience. So I haven't even touched, which is from my magazine. Which is what I mentioned to you before, but they don't see me as a business development person. They see me as an editor of a magazine. So I need to find something that they get because I said come on my blog challenge and they're like, no. It is very strange, but that's another audience to tap into another day. So, yeah, start small and build your library.

These products are saving me so much time because I can get out there and do it. I literally started the membership on the hoof using a Facebook group. I am building a new management system behind it. I said to the guys, look bare with me, you're getting a bargain. And they're like, you're damn right we're there. Fantastic look at this content. Yeah, so that's that's what I'm doing. That would be my ‘what to do'.

Sarah Arrow:

Brilliant. Thank you for that. Sharyn, have you got anything to add?

Sharyn Sheldon:

I don't. There's so much –  this has been wonderful. And I love the fact that you're such an action taker and you don't wait and try and make everything perfect. You grab some things right away and keep it simple and pick the things that you can take action on immediately and put to use, because you have all these people who, you know, want the help and are waiting for it.

Jane Kelly:

Even just paragraphs. I literally copied and pasted paragraphs for my landing pages and my copy because part of it is just, you know, and it is hard because yes, I actually am a perfectionist. I love getting it right. But I literally change my website in the middle of all of this because you literally just got to do it with you. And I literally blew a website. I changed the website over the weekend.

And so what am I doing? I'm insane. but it was important to me, but my website is not perfect. So when I put a post out like, oh, hi, guys, I'm doing this, bare with me I'm redesigning my own website. And I think as long as you just tell people. So on my blog challenge. I said, hi, guys. This is like brand new, but you want to come on the journey with me? You know that  I know what I'm talking about. You like me. I did my first Facebook live six weeks ago, but this opportunity I had, it was bizarre. Give me three hundred people with a live audience any time. But now I feel like I'm a Facebook pro and they absolutely loved it. And I think you've just got to be you to be honest and just get out there, doesn't have to be perfect. Run on the hoof because I must say it's not done the best for my stress levels. However, I've got programs running, that is where I want to be. I want to be teaching one-to-many. I want to rock up in my membership and go ‘Hi, guys. This week we're covering da, da, da, da, da. I'm doing a zoom on da da da da da. See you there. and I literally, week to week plan it the week before.

Sharyn Sheldon:

And you're walking the talk with examples for people.

Jane Kelly:

Yeah. I literally get your cheat sheet and I'll go right next week because, sometimes you have to react. Right now it's all about reaction. I launched my blog challenge in the middle of it all, people loved it, it gave them a focus. So yeah. run on the hoof, doesn't have to be perfect. I'm running my membership on Facebook group and email.

Sharyn Sheldon:

But you have your plan. So you said you've got your plans for different modules in the future using the pieces now you can go on it.

Jane Kelly:

Because I've got your Repurposing Challenge. I literally took your repurpose content and made a membership out of it.

Sharyn Sheldon:

Excellent

Jane Kelly:

It's all there – no worries, no stress on it. I'll just put some pretty colors in then job done.

Sarah Arrow:

So what do you think of the quality of Content Sparks is Courses Jane?.

Jane Kelly:

I've been in education for a long time,  probably for about thirty years now, and I used to have to create content that was inspected by OFSTED because I worked in colleges and then I went into adult learning. So our content had to be clear and precise. Obviously learning objectives. We have to have lesson plans for everything broken down, into bullet points. So when I received my first download, I purchased this course I was actually quite taken aback with how well the information was presented and so much so that I actually spoke to my mom. As I said, we're all in education. She has a doctorate in education and she actually wrote about designing courses. And I was explaining because it's quite an interesting concept to somebody; what do you mean you can resell the course?  I'm like, yeah.

I have no words at how impressed I was with the clarity and how easy it was to use, because I'm teaching my blog stuff and you don't write 10 pages of just stuff. Break it down. Easy chunks. You need to learn it yourself first in order to be able to deliver it. And it was great. And in all my years of education, it's up there. It really is gold this stuff. It makes my life so much easier. So the quality of content is amazing.
